industry & engineering: what we translate day to day

Verviers lived on wool: combing, spinning, cloth making and a trade that bought raw material on every continent. The trades have changed, the technical documentation has not gone away. Today it is the food industry of the Herve plateau, the Gileppe and Eupen dams, the bottling plant at Spa and mechanical subcontracting that move manuals, standards and procedures from one language to another.

Industry & engineering
How we read the sector

What the industry & engineering sector demands here

Verviers lived on textiles: the town was one of the world capitals of wool, with a trade that bought on every continent and a school of mechanics born out of its spinning mills. That know-how has shifted rather than vanished. The Herve plateau now feeds an exporting food industry, water remains a central resource between the Gileppe and Eupen dams, the spa trade and bottling, and the engineering and surface-treatment workshops work for German and Dutch clients. All of it produces the same raw material: technical documentation that has to change language without delay.

The ranking of languages can be read off the map here: German for the nearest customers and suppliers, Dutch for Flanders and Limburg, English for the standards frameworks, Polish and Romanian for the crews on the ground. A glossary in your name is built from the first order and stays your property. Whatever the translation memory has already seen, it finds again: terminology does not drift from one manual to the next, and the budget tightens project after project.

An instruction pinned up beside a machine, or a safety briefing, is written at the reading level of the people it is meant for. A perfect text the operator cannot follow protects nobody, and the first ones exposed are the crews from Poland or Romania.

  • Assembly, operating and maintenance manuals
  • Tender specifications and bid responses
  • Safety data sheets and applicable reference standards
  • Transport documents and customs formalities
Bringing in an interpreter

The appointments that call for an interpreter

On a production line or at the foot of a machine, the interpreter stops the next shift from reading an instruction the wrong way.

Machine acceptance

Start-up, trials and operator training facing a German, Italian or Dutch manufacturer.

Safety induction

Welcoming a Polish or Romanian crew on day one, checking what the operators have retained and not only what they were told.

Audit and certification

Quality audits, hygiene inspections and certification visits carried out by a foreign body.

Supplier negotiation

Meetings with equipment makers and raw material suppliers, on site or by video call.

Watch the manuals of machines bought second hand in Germany or the Netherlands. The original manual is often the only document available, sometimes in a version older than the machine actually delivered. We translate what you have and flag the discrepancies we find, rather than filling them in on your behalf.

How it works

From your first message to the finished document

One project manager carries your industry & engineering file, so you explain your situation only once.

  1. 01

A photo of the document is enough

Snap it with your phone; the framing hardly matters. For an interpreting assignment, give us the language, the date and the address.

  2. 02

The quote goes out within the hour

It states the amount, the delivery date and the format: sworn if an authority demands it, standard otherwise. No charge, no commitment.

  3. 03

The file goes to the right linguist

A translator who works with industry & engineering vocabulary takes it on, then a reviser goes over the text before anything leaves us.

  4. 04

File delivered or interpreter on site

The file arrives by email; the stamped copy follows by registered post if the counter wants the original. The interpreter travels to you.

Why entrust us with a industry & engineering file

01

Translation memory

What we have already translated for you does not go through translation again: repeated passages are reused, and the same component keeps its name from one revision to the next.

02

Your glossary is handed over

Your in-house glossary is built from the first order and the file comes to you. You keep it, even if one day you work with someone else.

03

A specialist, not an all-rounder

A technical, medical or legal text never lands with a jack-of-all-trades, not even when the deadline is tight.

04

Confidentiality in writing

Everyone involved signs a confidentiality undertaking. Your files stay on European servers and disappear whenever you ask.

05

The figure stops moving

The number on the quote is the number on the invoice. Translation, revision and delivery are already in it; nothing is added along the way.

06

Travel with no mileage charge

Our interpreters drive to Verviers, Dison, Pepinster, Theux, Spa, Herve, Welkenraedt, Malmedy or Eupen at no extra cost for the journey.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Do you work directly in our file formats?

Yes. Word, Excel, InDesign, FrameMaker, XML and XLIFF go in and come out as they are, layout intact: you are not left re-inserting plain text behind us. On a drawing, we allow for the space available inside the title block.

Does a safety data sheet follow a set format?

Yes, the sixteen sections of REACH. The hazard and precautionary statements are officially published in every language of the Union and are copied across verbatim. A linguist who rewords them strips the sheet of its regulatory value, so we always start from the published wording.

Do you translate retail supplier specifications?

Yes, that comes up often in the food businesses of the Herve plateau. A supplier specification, a HACCP plan and a label form one set: the same term has to reappear identically or the auditor will note it. We treat them as a single file.

How does a safety briefing with an interpreter run?

In short consecutive mode. The trainer speaks in sections, the interpreter renders them, the operators ask their questions in their own language. You see straight away what got through and what did not, which a sheet of instructions handed out at the door never shows.
