Documents handled

education & research: what we translate day to day

The colleges and schools of the district enrol candidates every year whose file was put together elsewhere: German graduates drawn to a course taught in French, young people from the German-speaking Community, adults returning to study with a qualification from another country. Behind every enrolment sits a recognition decision to obtain and a list of documents to produce in the proper form.

01

Diplomas and transcripts

Qualifications, school reports and certificates in sworn form, for the recognition file lodged with the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles.

02

Admission files

Motivation letters, references, language certificates and supporting evidence of the applicant's path.

03

Scientific publications

Articles, abstracts and posters, taken over by a reviser from the discipline before they go to the journal.

04

Mobility and placements

Placement agreements, Erasmus learning agreements and accords between Belgian, German and Dutch institutions.

05

Teaching materials

Course notes, timetables, continuing education content and online learning paths.

06

Funding applications

Grant applications, project descriptions and interim reports addressed to a European programme.

Education & research
How we read the sector

What the education & research sector demands here

Every September, institutions across the district receive files put together abroad. An equivalence application to the Wallonia-Brussels Federation requires the degree and the transcript in sworn form. We handle that and have the signature legalised at the FPS Justice when the office asks for it. The nearby German-speaking Community adds a movement of its own: qualifications issued in German in Eupen or Sankt Vith that have to be presented to a French-speaking authority, and the reverse.

School exchanges and placements cross the border easily here, towards the Rhineland, Dutch Limburg or the Grand Duchy. Erasmus agreements, placement contracts, diploma supplements and skills certificates are translated to the templates the host institution expects, then read by a native speaker before being sent. On the research side, articles, abstracts and funding applications follow the exact instructions of the publisher or the programme.

At a parents' evening, the interpreter is what makes the conversation actually happen. Their role has to stay clear to everyone around the table, starting with the pupil, who should not be translating for their parents.

Bringing in an interpreter

The appointments that call for an interpreter

Between a scientific day in a lecture theatre and a class council where the parents lose the thread, nothing really looks alike.

Conferences and study days

Simultaneous interpreting with booths, receivers and a technician, in the room or in a hybrid set-up.

Panels and defences

Dissertation defences and examination panels including members from abroad.

Parent-teacher meetings

Meetings with parents who do not follow in French, class councils and guidance interviews.

Delegations and visits

Hosting a foreign delegation, showing them round and signing a cooperation agreement.

Recognition follows rules of its own. The Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles wants a sworn translation, frequently alongside a certified copy of the original document. What it asks for changes with the country and with the level applied for. And a qualification obtained in the German-speaking Community follows a separate route: find out before you order.

How it works

From your first message to the finished document

One project manager carries your education & research file, so you explain your situation only once.

  1. 01

A photo of the document is enough

Snap it with your phone; the framing hardly matters. For an interpreting assignment, give us the language, the date and the address.

  2. 02

The quote goes out within the hour

It states the amount, the delivery date and the format: sworn if an authority demands it, standard otherwise. No charge, no commitment.

  3. 03

The file goes to the right linguist

A translator who works with education & research vocabulary takes it on, then a reviser goes over the text before anything leaves us.

  4. 04

File delivered or interpreter on site

The file arrives by email; the stamped copy follows by registered post if the counter wants the original. The interpreter travels to you.

Our guarantees

Why entrust us with a education & research file

01

The reviser knows the discipline

A biology article is read by a biologist with English as a first language, never by an all-rounder. He also spots what will get the text rejected by the journal.

02

The schedule starts from your date

We count back from the filing date: delivery of the translation first, then the start of the work. Enrolment deadlines do not shift, so the planning bends to them.

03

A specialist, not an all-rounder

A technical, medical or legal text never lands with a jack-of-all-trades, not even when the deadline is tight.

04

Confidentiality in writing

Everyone involved signs a confidentiality undertaking. Your files stay on European servers and disappear whenever you ask.

05

The figure stops moving

The number on the quote is the number on the invoice. Translation, revision and delivery are already in it; nothing is added along the way.

06

Travel with no mileage charge

Our interpreters drive to Verviers, Dison, Pepinster, Theux, Spa, Herve, Welkenraedt, Malmedy or Eupen at no extra cost for the journey.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

What does the recognition service ask for, exactly?

The diploma and the full transcript in sworn form, sometimes with the course programme on top. What is required depends on the country of origin and the level applied for, so put the question to the service before ordering. If their answer looks opaque, send it to us and we will decode it.

Does a German diploma need special handling?

German titles do not always have a direct Belgian counterpart. We render the original name and add an explanatory note rather than forcing a match that does not exist. That is what the recognition service expects, and it saves a request for further information.

How many interpreters for a full day?

Two per language combination. They relieve each other every twenty to thirty minutes, because beyond that attention falls and the rendering with it. The equipment, booths and receivers, arrives with the technician who sets it up.

I am still abroad: can everything be done remotely?

Yes. The quote starts from a photo of the diploma, everything is settled by email, and if the registry insists on an original the stamped copy travels to you by post. Nobody will ask you to make the journey.
