More than 70 languages translated
in Verviers and across the district

Here in Belgium, German is a neighbouring language as much as an official one, and Dutch follows close behind. Turkish, Italian and Arabic, brought by the families who came to work in textiles, fill the civil status files.

Our pairs

The broad language groups we handle

Your language is not on this list? Ask anyway: our network reaches further than this page.

01

German and Dutch

Two of the country's three official languages. German rules in Eupen and across the German-speaking Community, while Dutch opens Flanders, the Netherlands and a good share of supply contracts.

02

Major European languages

English, Spanish, Portuguese: common pairs, quick to engage, billed at the base rate.

03

Turkish, Italian, Arabic

The three civil status languages of this town, brought by the families recruited into the cloth trade and textiles. Births, marriages, estates, equivalence: they come round every week, in writing and in speech.

04

Central and Eastern Europe

Polish, Romanian, Bulgarian, Czech, Hungarian, Croatian, Serbian, Albanian, Russian, Ukrainian: strongly present on building sites, in logistics and in administrative files.

05

Asian languages

Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, for commercial files, transport documents and university work.

06

African languages

Swahili, Lingala, Wolof, Tigrinya: seldom covered in Wallonia, and yet part of our daily practice.

What moves the price

It is not difficulty that costs, it is scarcity

If Japanese is billed higher than Dutch, it is not because it would be harder. It is because there are fewer translators, and fewer sworn ones still.

On a rare language combined with a sworn service, the consequence is very concrete: the obstacle is not the volume, it is the calendar. Tracking down a sworn professional in Tigrinya or Pashto can take several days.

Hence this advice: on such pairs, tell us about the file as soon as it appears, even if the final document is not yet in your hands.

The rate

Where the rate gaps between languages come from

It is not a question of grammar, but of how many professionals are available.

Common languages

German, Dutch, English, Italian, Spanish. Plenty of translators available, hence the base rate and short turnarounds.

Intermediate languages

Turkish, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Ukrainian. Fewer attested professionals, hence a slightly higher rate and earlier booking.

Rare languages

Farsi, Pashto, Tigrinya, Lingala. The pool is narrow, above all for sworn work, and the timing weighs more than the price.

Always into the mother tongue

Whatever the pair, the translator writes in their own language. That is what produces a text with nothing to betray that it was translated.

On a rare pair combined with sworn work, warn us as early as you can. Tracking down a sworn translator in Pashto or Tigrinya can take several days: the brake is not the volume to be translated, but the number of attested professionals in that pair.

Choosing the linguist

How your file finds its translator

The name of the linguist counts as much as the language pair.

  1. 01

    The pair, variant included

German from Belgium or from Germany, Dutch from Flanders or from the Netherlands, standard or Maghrebi Arabic: the variant changes the administrative vocabulary.

  2. 02

    The field

A lawyer for a contract, a life sciences specialist for a study protocol. Specialisation comes before availability.

  3. 03

    Sworn status

Document intended for an administration? We check the entry in the national register for that precise pair, and not for the language in general.

  4. 04

    The revision

A second linguist of native standard takes up and harmonises the text. On a rare language that is the only safety net that holds.

Our commitments

What does not change from one pair to the next

01

Always a native speaker

The translator writes solely into their mother tongue. Without exception, including when the deadline tightens.

02

Sworn status verified

For sworn work we check the entry in the national register for the exact pair requested.

03

Regional variants

A German-speaking administration does not use the German of a brochure printed in Germany, and the Dutch of Flanders departs from that of the Netherlands. The choice follows the reader, not the language.

04

Rare pairs taken on

A difficult pair is not turned down: we search, and the answer on feasibility comes within the hour.

05

One glossary per pair

Your terminology is stored apart for each language pair, which is what keeps it consistent over the years.

06

Rate stated in advance

The quote sets out the rate for your pair in black and white. No language-related extra turns up afterwards.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Why does German take up so much room with you?

Because it is an official language some twenty kilometres from here. An administration of the German-speaking Community writes and expects its documents in German, and many residents of the district work on the German side of the border. Contracts, pension decisions, notarial deeds and civil status papers therefore travel both ways all year.

Why does Turkish come up so often in civil status files?

Because the cloth trade and textiles drew Turkish, Moroccan and Italian families here, and their descendants are numerous today. Birth certificates, marriages celebrated abroad, estates, applications for nationality: all these documents pass through a sworn translator.

Belgian Dutch or Netherlands Dutch?

We cover both, and the nuance counts: the administrative, legal and commercial vocabulary differs. Tell us whether the document is aimed at Flanders, Brussels or the Netherlands. With Maastricht so close, the question comes up often. Absent any indication on a Belgian document, we go with Belgian Dutch.

Can you translate without going through French?

Yes: German into Dutch, English into Turkish, with no intermediate step. On more unusual pairs, Romanian into German for instance, we sometimes route through a pivot language. We flag that, because it weighs on the timing and on the price.

How do you check a language nobody on your team speaks?

Through cross-revision. A second linguist of native standard, independent of the first, systematically takes up the text. That is the only truly reliable safeguard, and it never drops away, not even in express.
