retail & e-commerce: what we translate day to day

From Verviers, in Belgium, your first foreign customer is never far off: Aachen and Maastricht are under an hour's drive, and the High Fens draw German and Dutch visitors all year round. A text carried over word for word gives itself away at once. A hook, a guarantee or a service promise get rewritten in the target language.

01

Websites and shops

Web pages and online catalogues, handled through the XLIFF export of WordPress, WPML or Shopify.

02

Content and search visibility

Page titles, meta descriptions and alt attributes: the invisible part of the text, the part that decides whether the buyer reaches you.

03

Product sheets

Descriptions, specifications and selling points, with the sizes, units and habits of the target market.

04

Terms and legal notices

Handled by a legal translator, because they bind you in front of a German or Dutch buyer.

05

Tourism and hospitality

Accommodation websites, menus, walking brochures for the Fens and stay packages aimed at foreign guests.

06

International events

Press kits, accreditations, programmes and releases around the race weekends at Spa-Francorchamps.

Retail & e-commerce
How we read the sector

What the retail & e-commerce sector demands here

From Verviers, three foreign markets sit within forty kilometres: Germany through Aachen, the Netherlands through Maastricht, the Grand Duchy a little further south. The Meuse-Rhine Euregio counts several million people who buy online on either side of the borders. A headline, a guarantee or a reassurance argument does not survive word-for-word transposition: they are rewritten in the target language, keeping your way of speaking.

German and Dutch therefore come before English in most projects from this area. We work directly inside your tools, WordPress, Shopify, InDesign or an XLIFF export, and hand the layout back untouched, page titles, meta descriptions and alt text included. For a shop in the town centre or a business near the wool and fashion museum, the same work applies to signage and menus.

Your terms of sale, your legal notices and your returns policy fall outside marketing. They go to a legal translator, because a loose clause costs more than a flat slogan, especially when the buyer lives in another member state.

Bringing in an interpreter

The appointments that call for an interpreter

The interpreter steps in when the relationship forms: a trade fair in Aachen, a Dutch distributor, a press crew to host.

Trade fairs

German, Dutch or Flemish fairs, with the interpreter staying on the stand throughout.

Distributor meetings

Meeting an importer or a buying group, at their offices or by video call.

Press and events

Press conferences, interviews and hosting foreign crews during a race weekend.

Reseller training

Product sessions for sales staff or resellers whose language it is not.

The mandatory notices on an online shop are not the same in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands: right of withdrawal, legal guarantee, operator details. Translating the Belgian text is not enough; it has to be adapted to the law of the buyer's country. We flag the passages that need to go past your lawyer.

How it works

From your first message to the finished document

One project manager carries your retail & e-commerce file, so you explain your situation only once.

  1. 01

A photo of the document is enough

Snap it with your phone; the framing hardly matters. For an interpreting assignment, give us the language, the date and the address.

  2. 02

The quote goes out within the hour

It states the amount, the delivery date and the format: sworn if an authority demands it, standard otherwise. No charge, no commitment.

  3. 03

The file goes to the right linguist

A translator who works with retail & e-commerce vocabulary takes it on, then a reviser goes over the text before anything leaves us.

  4. 04

File delivered or interpreter on site

The file arrives by email; the stamped copy follows by registered post if the counter wants the original. The interpreter travels to you.

Our guarantees

Why entrust us with a retail & e-commerce file

01

The tags get translated too

Without translated page titles and meta descriptions your shop does exist in German, but nobody finds it. We handle them along with the rest of the content.

02

Hooks are played again

A hook is not translated, it is played again. We put several in front of you, each with its own intent, and you choose.

03

A specialist, not an all-rounder

A technical, medical or legal text never lands with a jack-of-all-trades, not even when the deadline is tight.

04

Confidentiality in writing

Everyone involved signs a confidentiality undertaking. Your files stay on European servers and disappear whenever you ask.

05

The figure stops moving

The number on the quote is the number on the invoice. Translation, revision and delivery are already in it; nothing is added along the way.

06

Travel with no mileage charge

Our interpreters drive to Verviers, Dison, Pepinster, Theux, Spa, Herve, Welkenraedt, Malmedy or Eupen at no extra cost for the journey.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Do we need separate German and Dutch versions?

If you sell on both sides, yes. These are two markets, two sets of consumer law and two ways of addressing the customer. We start from your French text and produce two independent versions rather than rolling out one translation.

Our shop runs on WordPress or Shopify: how do you go about it?

We pull your text out in XLIFF, through WPML, Polylang or Shopify's own translation module. Nothing is retyped by hand: page structure, internal links and formatting come back intact, and you simply reimport to publish.

We host foreign visitors during a race weekend: what should we prepare?

The menu, the stay packages and the cancellation terms translated in advance, plus an interpreter on site if you are receiving crews or journalists. Book early: on those dates availability goes quickly. The minimum lead time remains 24 hours.

Who takes on our terms and conditions?

Not the linguist who writes your product sheets. Terms and conditions bind you before a judge, and the consumer law of the buyer's country applies to them. That text goes to a legal translator, and we point out the clauses worth having reviewed.
